4 Age-old Beauty Tricks That Still Work

Age Old Beauty Tricks that Still Work

When it comes to beauty secrets, your mom or even grandma might really know best! Just because their beauty regimens may be decades old doesn’t mean they aren’t effective. Some of the best beauty advice stems from old-school tips that utilize organic sources (which are safer for your face and for the environment), as well as ingredients that you might already have at home.

The old adage, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” has never been more true than in the current changing landscape of beauty. Ancient skincare rituals that were tried and tested centuries ago have come full circle, with more brands returning to a holistic natural approach for their products and formulas. With just a few tweaks, these ancient skincare rituals and ingredients are brought bang up to date; a sure sign that, at its core, beauty can be simple and sustainable.

1. Use silk pillowcases and eye masks.

There’s a reason silk has been used for hundreds of years, often as a sign of status and royalty. While it’s obviously a material of beauty and luxury, it also has health benefits. Because it’s so soft and non-absorbent, sleeping with it prevents friction on your skin and hair and won’t sap the moisture from your face while you sleep. You’ll wake up feeling like royalty!

2. Rose water spray before bed.

This symbol of love has much to offer when it comes to beauty. Used since Egyptian times, rose water has been used to prevent signs of aging by reducing wrinkles and tightening pores. Rose water is also an effective cleanser, known for easily removing oil, dirt, and other pollutants from your skin.

3. Caster oil for bomb brows.

This old trick actually works two-fold! Brow gels haven’t always been around, so women would define the shape and hold it in place with caster oil! Not only that, because castor oil is packed with nutrients, it’s long been used as an at-home growth serum for fuller, bushier brows.

4. Cold, moist green tea bags for brighter under eyes.

What can’t green tea do? Sometimes eye creams just aren’t enough to shoo away through puffy, dark under eyes. Wet some green tea bags and keep them in the fridge for such an emergency. The caffeine in the tea will help narrow blood vessels and the cold will soothe puffy skin!
